Learning Outcomes and Application This unit specifies the competency required to research careers, training and career path options in the furnishing industry. It involves research into the range of activities available in the industry to develop a career plan.It is designed for use in a pre-employment skills introduction program and is suitable for use in institutional-based vocational programs. Skills development will take place under direct supervision.This unit is not to be used in a traineeship or apprenticeship training program or associated qualifications. It is only to be used in pre-employment programs and carries no credit towards apprenticeship/trade and other qualification types in manufacturing and furnishings.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Assessors must:

satisfy the assessor competency requirements that are in place at the time of the assessment as set by the VET regulator

have vocational competency in developing a career plan for furnishing and manufacturing industry at least to the level being assessed with relevant industry knowledge and experience.

Assessment must occur in a sufficiently rigorous simulated environment that reflects realistic workplace situations.

Conditions for assessment must include access to research materials and documentation required.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

researching types of enterprises that employ furnishing personnel with all levels of qualifications

developing a personal career plan that describes own skills and interests.

Evidence required to demonstrate the required knowledge for this unit must be relevant to and satisfy the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of the:

industries that employ furnishing people

jobs/work in the furnishing industry

types of learning institutions that support skills development in furnishing and allied industries.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Industries sectors include one (1) more of the following:

blinds, awnings and security screens

cabinet making (kitchens, bathrooms and built-in fitments)

furniture making

furniture finishing (polishing)

flooring technology (timber, carpets and resilient)

glass and glazing

musical instrument making and repairs

piano technology

picture framing

soft furnishings

wood machining

upholstery

Occupations include one (1) or more of the following:

general duties

production work

artesian

tradesman

apprentice

furnishings manufacturer

paraprofessional designer

paraprofessional technician

installers

technical sales
